Dry Needling for Hip Pain in Jacksonville, FL

At Dry Needle Pain Relief, we often encounter patients who are suffering from severe hip and/or buttock pain. This pain can be debilitating and worsen when sitting or during normal everyday activities. Fortunately, we are able to provide intensive relief by targeting pain at the source: deep within the muscle. Using dry needle acupuncture for pain in the hip or buttocks, we can give patients the ability to get back to being active.

Common Conditions That Cause Hip and Buttock Pain

Pain in the hip or buttocks can be caused by a variety of factors. At Dry Needle Pain Relief, we carefully evaluate the cause of every patient’s discomfort. We then carefully craft a treatment plan. Using dry needle acupuncture for hip pain or buttocks pain, we can provide immediate yet lasting relief.  Some of the most common causes of pain that we frequently treat include:

A type of bursitis, GTPS is a cause of outer hip pain that is commonly found in women, as well as patients with lower back pain, obesity, osteoarthritis, and iliotibial band tenderness. Inflammation of the bursa (the fluid-filled sac that cushions the hip joint) is the culprit for pain with this condition.

The piriformis is a muscle in the gluteal region that runs from the sacrum (the base of the spine) to the femur bone (thigh bone). Piriformis syndrome results when the piriformis muscle is enlarged and inflamed, easily entrapping the nearby sciatic nerve and blood vessels. This compression of the sciatic nerve by the irritated piriformis muscle results in pain that can be felt deep in the buttocks.

By inserting our dry needles into the trigger points in your hands, Dry Needle can bring relief more quickly. You will notice reduced pain almost immediately after the procedure.

During an automobile accident, a sudden fall, or other trauma, muscle fibers often tighten in an attempt to reduce the severity of an injury.

How Dry Needling Can Help

With dry needling for hip pain, we target the Myofascial trigger points (also referred to as “knots”) in the muscle. These knots are made up of a group of muscle fibers that have shortened after being activated, but are not able to lengthen back to a relaxed state after their use. As a result, painful, sensitive nodules in the muscle form, and muscle fibers become tight enough to compress the surrounding capillaries and nerves. As a result, patients suffering from these myofascial trigger points in muscles surrounding the hip and buttocks experience hip and/or buttock pain.

In order to treat this, we insert an ultrasound-guided fine filament needle into the center of a myofascial trigger point within the problematic muscle, triggering the contracted muscle fibers to relax. These muscle fibers are then provided with the fresh oxygen and nutrients, and the result is a reduction of hip and buttock pain.

Common Treatment Areas

The cause for hip and buttock pain can vary for every patient. As a result, we evaluate the cause of every patient’s pain on a case-by-case basis so that we can isolate which muscles are contributing to their pain. We then conduct a series of dry needle treatments to bring relief. While every treatment plan will address different muscles, we commonly develop plans for:

  • Dry needling Piriformis Syndrome: Targeting the Piriformis Muscle
  • Dry needling for hip pain/ Dry needling hip flexors: Targeting the Tensor Fascia Latae (TFL)/ITB
  • Dry needling for buttock pain: Targeting the Gluteus Medius Muscles
